The feasibility of using aluminum die castings is considered very practical, due in part to the extreme malleability of aluminum to conform to specific dimensions and design features. From large products manufactured using sand casting to processes which produce the tiniest and most complex details, aluminum castings are found to be a quality material in terms of strength and ductility, as well as in soundness. In fact, aluminum castings exhibit less cracking and surface imperfections compared to other metals used in the die casting process.
In the U.S. alone, approximately $2.5 million worth of aluminum castings are manufactured annually. In fact, the die casting industry uses more tons of aluminum compared to other materials. With this type of die casting material, a large quantity of aluminum die cast parts is produced. From die castings which weigh up to 50 kg. to those with tiny parts, the use of relatively inexpensive aluminum can justify the cost of casting and tooling machines in production.
Aluminum die cast material is used for lawnmower housings, streetlamp housings, typewriter frames, dental equipment, pots and pans, cover plates, escalator and conveyor arts, aircraft and marine components, and a variety of other materials that people use everyday.
