Aluminum Die Casting Heat Sink

What is an Aluminum Heatsink? A Heat sink is an object that ingests and disperses heat which comes from another object by direct or radiant thermal contact. Heat sinks are often used in various functions wherein effective heat dispersion is needed. Few examples are lasers, cooling electronic apparatus, heat engines and refrigeration. You can often see an Aluminum Heat sink attached to a computer’s circuit board.

Normally Heat Sink have a collection of fin-like or comb projections and a single or more than two surfaces. These properties of a heat sink increases its outer face area which touches the air, and as a result, the heat dispersion percentage increases. Since aluminum heat sinks are known to be static objects, a fan is used to help heat sinks by giving better airflow.

Usually, aluminum die castings are used in making heat sinks because this is the perfect material that conducts heat, and it is also lighter and cheaper than other materials. The main advantage of Aluminum Heatsinks is that they may be shaped through the process of extrusion effortlessly, which is why they make the difficult cross sections achievable. The base area of the Aluminum Heatsinks should be smooth and even to guarantee the most advantageous thermal connection together with the other object which needs cooling.

Furthermore, if you match up the process used to make the Aluminum Heatsinks to other Die Casting Heat sink processes, you’ll notice that it only involves less machining, and cooling fins may actually be done while setting up the holes. Additionally, the Aluminum Heatsinks possess a great dimensional constancy.

Aluminum Die Casting

Aluminum Die Casting. Aluminum today is a commonly used metal alloy in a lot of products covering numerous industries. It is used in building automobiles, it is used in consumer electronics, and it is used in housing projects and many more. There are several ways to make use of this metal alloy. Manufacturers all over the world have chosen this metal for their products because it is cheap to obtain, it is a lightweight material yet it is very strong and durable. When it comes to their aluminum needs, manufacturers commonly go to an Aluminum Die Casting Company.

An Aluminum Die Casting Company provides a service to manufacturers of manipulating aluminum metals into the desired shape and size. In other words, these companies are responsible for taking a bar of aluminum alloy and turning them into various parts such as heat sinks, lighting fixtures, brackets and automotive parts. They do this through a process known as die casting wherein the aluminum bars are subjected to intense heating until they liquefy. The liquefied aluminum will next be poured into large metal casings known as castings or molds. The liquid metal would take the form of the casting and when it is cooled, the metal will harden into its former solid state no longer a bar, but the intended shape.

Furthermore, the service of an Aluminum Die Casting Company is very valuable to many manufacturers as they provide high quality material at low costs. This is especially helpful for those does not have access to the needed machinery to accomplish die casting.

Kinetic Die Casting manufactures aluminum die castings creating aluminum die casting boxes, aluminum handle hardware, and aerospace die casting. If you would like to get a quote, please visit our website: Kinetic Die Casting Company

The Process of Die Casting

The process of die casting provides the backbone to the functioning of the major heavy and even light metal industries and especially in developed economies such as the US. Most of the raw material parts in hardware, auto and locomotive industries are a product of this vital process. Here is simple and short guide get elemental knowledge about this technique.

To define in a simple layman tone, die casting is a process where at high pressure and controlled conditions, molten metal is poured or forced into casts or molds and consequently give them solid definite shapes for desired purposes.

THE FOUR STEP PROCESS

  • The cast is readied for pouring in the molten metal. This is done by lubricating the walls of the mold so that when the metal solidifies it is easier to take it out. The lubricant also helps in maintaining the perfect temperature for the process.
  • Next the liquid metal is forced into the cast; a more technical terminology would be “shooting” the molten metal inside. It is very important that the constant high pressure is maintained at this stage. The pressure is usually ranged from 1500 to 2500 psi.
  • The next step is to open the cast and then the shot/shots are taken out using ejector pins.
  • The last step is to separate all the waste or scrap such as gate, runner, sprues form the pure cast of the metal.
  • The cast which are used are preferably made out of non ferrous metals such as copper, zinc, magnesium, aluminum and the like. In the present day the demand for aluminum products is sky high and so is the supply through aluminum die casting.

Die Cast Parts: Precious Products of Precision

Die Cast Parts: Precious Products of Precision. Because the popularity of die cast parts has reached new heights in recent years, some people think making them is just easy. They couldn’t be more wrong. Die casting company makes parts are made using a process that is strict, accuracy-conscious, and perfection-oriented. This process is no less than die casting, one of the most preferred methods in casting these days because of the vast number of advantages they offer to both consumers and manufacturers.

Die casting is an old process that involves the injection of molten metal into reusable molds, also known as dies, with the use of high pressure. There are different kinds of metal that can be used in the process; they may be ferrous or non-ferrous. Held under high pressure, the chosen metal remains in the chamber until it solidifies or hardens into a net-shaped part and becomes what becomes known as a die cast part. Precision is the key in making die cast parts that are shaped and measured to perfection.

Furthermore, the die casting process is regarded in the metalworking industry as the most versatile one. No other metal casting process existing today allows for a wide array of options in sizes, shapes, design intricacy, measurement preciseness, and dimensional tolerance. There are so many things that can be done using the process in order to satisfy consumer needs for both commercial and industrial purposes. Homes and offices, as well as private and public entities, can benefit greatly from the choices available. The process of making die cast parts is indeed a valuable one.

    Aluminum Manufacturing is Essential!

Aluminum Manufacturing is Essential. Aluminum is the thirteenth element in the periodic table. Aside from nitrogen and oxygen, this metal is one of the most abundant elements that can be found in the Earth’s crust. This metal is an important component in manufacturing transport vehicles, building construction, packaging and many more. Kinetic Die Casting Company is an aluminum parts manufacturing company.

Heavier vehicles require more fuel to accelerate. With that concept, manufacturers choose aluminum because it is light weight. Aluminum manufacturing of auto vehicle parts results to low fuel consumption. Also, aluminum plays an important role not only on land vehicles but also in the aircraft industry because 80% of most planes are made up of aluminum.

Also, it doesn’t require further painting and weight of airplanes because it can resist corrosion. Paint in airplanes is considered as unnecessary weight.

Furthermore, Aluminum is also best known for its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. It is better to use this as a conductor instead of copper. It is the frequently used material in major electric transmission lines. Aluminum part manufacturing somehow is responsible why you can turn on your lights, your computer, and microwave at home.

Because of Aluminum's ductile property and low melting point, it can be processed and formed in many ways. This metal is an excellent reflector of light and heat as well. Most reflectors used in rescue blankets and light fittings are made up of aluminum.

Aluminum foil is very common to each home. This is also made up of aluminum and its non-toxic. Once the food is wrapped, the aroma nor the taste doesn’t come out. That is why it is very ideal to use in packaging products such as pharmaceutical or food. Also, this metal is also used in canning the processed food in food manufacturing plants.

Aluminum manufacturing makes possible some simple but important functions in our daily lives.

    Die Cast Tooling Info

Die casting tooling is also known as die casting dies, die casting molds or insert die. Die casting tooling also comes in different sizes, values, and styles. Die casting tooling comes either with a single cavity or multiple cavities. The cost for die cast tooling varies for trim dies and cavity inserts. Tooling can be damaged and wear off from erosion if the cavity inserts are soft. It requires expertise and understanding on how to mold tooling for aluminum. Kinetic Die Casting Company makes die cast tooling. Tooling insert is the cheapest form of die cast tooling. It requires heat treatment to extend its tooling life. The die cast tooling insert can wear away and be easily damaged due to erosion of the molten metal. There are die casting toolmakers that don’t use enough steel. Therefore it results to low potential life of the inserts. Furthermore, Inserts must be mounted into a holder that allows the aluminum to inject into the insert. A pathway should be provided for the metal to go in. These holders are commonly called as family die, unit die or mold base. If you can’t get yourself good quality die casting tooling inserts for your aluminum because it is expensive, try to get a prototype. The prototype insert is can also be used to test and create a design. It is somehow less expensive compared to a hardened cavity insert and it takes less time to produce. However, this tool can be damaged easily and since it is not as good as a steel insert, it can’t be modified. Kinetic Die Casting manufactures aluminum and zinc die casting parts. Aluminum Die Casting has a Low Carbon Footprint!

Low Carbon Footprint of Aluminum Die Castings Should Be Marketed to Industry. The die casting industry has long been built on recycling. The metal alloys used by the die casters are produced from recycled raw materials, created with far less energy than is required for virgin alloys. More than 95% of the aluminum die castings produced in North America are made of post-consumer recycled aluminum, helping to keep the aluminum content of municipal solid waste to less than 1%. In response to questions from NADCA member companies about the carbon footprint of automotive die castings compared to alternative materials and processes for automotive components, this Carbon Footprint study by William A. Butler was authorized. Specifically, the study compares the cradle-to-grave carbon footprint of aluminum and magnesium die cast components with the carbon footprint of injection molded plastic components. The results of the study provide environmental impact information to the die casting industry, provide a baseline for further component carbon footprint evaluations in the future and identify opportunities for industry improvement in the environmental impact of die casting operations. One of the most significant study results is that — neglecting the contribution of product use to the total carbon footprint — aluminum die casting has the lowest carbon footprint because of its use of secondary aluminum alloys and its ability to be recycled. NADCA members can download The “Carbon Footprint” of Aluminum and Magnesium Die Castings Compared to Injection Molded Components at www.diecasting.org/members. Aluminum Brackets

Aluminum die casting has produced a lot of remarkable materials from guitar amplifiers to chocolate fountains. The most basic designs, however, are often the most useful for the human hands. Aluminum Brackets Hardware is one of the most classic designs made from die casting. These materials are often constructed in net shape, making them excellent devices when it comes to welding. Since brackets are often made of steel, when aluminum brackets hardware was first introduced in the market, consumers found doubted the strength of aluminum material. Much to their relief, a lot of people have found brackets made of aluminum to withstand the test of time.
    All You Need to Know.

When it comes to hole die cast,Aluminum bracket hardware provides an excellent opportunity for a manufacturer to save money. Most extra expenses related to machinery and construction are caused by hiring extra equipments needed for making holes. Although a lot of tools are still made with welded steel parts, it has been proven that aluminum brackets still consist of the most hard-wearing ribs that are guaranteed to carry out the most grueling tasks in construction. Aluminum brackets are also featured to weigh less and perform sturdier than brackets made of steel. Nowadays, the efficiency of aluminum brackets hardware has been well known throughout the construction market. A lot of manufacturers prefer to buy and sell brackets made of aluminum due to its electrically conductive nature and its pleasing permanence. Handles used for automotive and home renovation also make great use of these aluminum brackets.

    Aluminum Heat Sinks

Aluminum Heat Sinks are objects that draw heat from another object through thermal contact. They are mostly used in electronics and automobiles. Aluminum is a lightweight and sturdy material that has good thermal and electrical properties, that’s why it has become the material of choice for most heat sinks.

First of all, Aluminum heat sinks are produced by die casting by a Die Casting Company, a process wherein molten metal is forced is forced into mold cavities. The die casting process is beneficial if you are producing large quantities of small to medium sized automotive parts with good details. Prior to the introduction of die casting, most heat sinks are made by welding several pieces together and drilling holes, if required, after. This process is time consuming, costly, and labor extensive. Die cast aluminum heat sinks are good as raw parts but they can be powder coated and anodized easily.

Second of all, Die Cast Aluminum heat sinks can be manufactured in a much faster rate—ranging from a few hundreds to a few thousands small to medium sized parts a day—because they can be produced in net shape and there are no welding and drilling methods needed after. Die casting saves time, money, and energy all together.

Thirdly, Die cast aluminum heat sinks are definitely lighter than their stainless steel counterparts, with a specific gravity of about 0.10 pounds per cubic inch. Because they are electrically conductive, aluminum heat sinks are used for radio frequency (RF) and electronic magnetic inductance (EMI) shields. This quality also allows them to be grounded easily.

Aluminum heat sinks are used in airplane parts, circuit boards, microwaves, cellular phones, satellite components, laser components, motor housings, automotive, lighting parts and many more.

    Aluminum Hardware Handles

Aluminum Hardware Handles. Handles are installed on anything that requires the manipulation of the human hand in pulling or turning. House doors use handles to be able to open or close the door. The same thing goes with car doors. Cabinet handles are more decorative compared to those installed on car or house doors. Horizontal pull handles on the other hand, are widespread. Examples are handles installed on drawers, handles on doors without latches, and the handles on the outside of car doors.

The various types of handles include folding, Standard Square, positive locking, oval, wire, and extruding. Most of these are made in aluminum, stainless steel, or brass. The most popular ad widely-used however, is aluminum handle ware.
Most of aluminum hardware handles are made through die casting, making its production a lot better than with other industrial processes. In addition, compared to other metals, aluminum is easier to process. Aluminum can also be polished to a high sheen, making it ideal for handles. The rate of manufacture of aluminum hardware handles is from a few hundred to a few thousand handles in a day.

Furthermore, aluminum is also ideal because there are some handles which are decorative like the ones used in cabinets. Aluminum is easier to decorate than other metals because the ornaments and other decorative details can easily be added to the mold cavities that resulted from die casting. Aluminum handles are also stronger than their stainless steel counterparts because the former can be designed with support components such as strengthening radii or ribs.

Aluminum handles ware include handles on home doors, car doors, sliding doors, and cabinets, shower handles, door knobs, door hinges, bolts, stops, locks, drawer pulls, lifts, faucets, and more.

    Heat Sinks Prevent Damage

Heat Sinks prevent damage to circuits. If you open your computer processing unit, you will find a component that sits on top of your circuit board. This is the heat sink die casting and it contributes a lot in making things work more efficiently inside the machine. Aluminum heat sink die castings are important because they keep things cool to avoid any damage that may be caused by too much heat.

First of all, A die casting heat sink is a molded piece of aluminum die casting that can draw the heat away from a processor or source. It does its job by exchanging energies with the source. The process is called thermal contact. Heat sink die castings are widely used in systems or machines that require effective and efficient heat dissipation. Aluminum Die Casting Heat Sinks Keep Machines Working Efficiently.

For instance, refrigeration is a process involving the removal of heat from the enclosed space. This heat is rejected and shifted somewhere, and that’s where the heat sinks come in.

Heat sink die castings are very useful in the thermal management of various electronic devices and systems. Since heat is generated by the electronic devices and the circuitry, this heat must be dissipated so that the machine will stay reliable and to prevent any premature failure or damage.

Aluminum heat sink die castings are very light and have a specific gravity of about 0.10 pounds per cubic inch. Aluminum die casting has other several properties that make it a very good material for manufacturing heat sinks. For one, it is electrically conductive without being magnetic. They can be used as natural grounds for the electronic components that may be getting interferences from outside frequencies.

Die Casting Parts used by Customers

Die Casting Parts used by Customers. Die casting is a process that involves three steps to accomplish. The first step is to melt raw material, in this case metal alloy, by subjecting it in intense heat. Once the metal alloy has melted into liquid, it will then be injected in large casings made of steel commonly referred to as molds or castings. These casings would give the liquefied metal its new shape. The mold will then be cooled down so that it will harden once again and there you have it. A common metal used in this process is aluminum, but other metals such as zinc can also be used. Consumer Parts Die Castings is an industry in itself which caters to many manufacturers around the world.
Several products such as electronics, automobiles and household appliances make use of aluminum parts. Aluminum is a favored metal alloy for many manufacturers because of its characteristics. It is almost as strong as steal but it carries less weight compared to steel and most other metals for that matter. At the same time, aluminum is cheap and easy to obtain. For the manufacturers that provide these products which use aluminum parts, they need different kinds of parts which can be provided by die casting. Consumer Parts Die Castings fast and is cheap, which is why it is a choice of many manufacturers around the globe.
Customer Parts Die Castings can create bulk orders in little time. It is a valuable asset for any manufacturer to have someone provides them with die casted aluminum parts. It is even better if they have their own die casting machinery.

[Brackets are the Way to Go]

A bracket is an L-shaped fixed structure used to connect one horizontal surface and one vertical surface. Brackets are used for both household and industrial purposes. Steel brackets are costly and heavy. The introduction of aluminum brackets made it possible to produce brackets that are lighter and less expensive.

Die cast aluminum bracket are made from molten metal forced into mold cavities. The process of die casting is perfect if you are producing large quantities of small to medium sized parts with good details. Aluminum brackets are good conductors of electricity. Aluminum brackets made by die casting are produced in a faster rate with less labor, ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand small parts daily. Aluminum brackets also have holes die cast into the mold so that no drilling is required after, saving time, energy, and money altogether. Kinetic Die Casting Company makes Aluminum Brackets.

There are several kinds of aluminum brackets: An angle bracket, uni-strut universal right angle surface bracket, and a multi-purpose servo bracket. All these are made with quality aluminum and are designed to give absolute support.

For instance, the “Seat-Back Tray-Table” of the Boeing 747-700 Airplane is supported with two die cast aluminum brackets, strong enough to hold glasses, plates, a laptop, and even the arms and hands of someone working on the make-shift table.

Furthermore, aluminum brackets are also designed to be decorative. They are used for lighting fixtures, chocolate fountains, barns, and many more. Die cast aluminum brackets have become the choice of numerous builders because it is cheap, light, and sturdy.

    Aluminum Auto Parts--Who uses Them?

Aluminum Auto Parts are Now Widely Used by Many. Before, most of the car parts were made from steel or iron because manufacturers believed that a car must be strong, hence, strong metals must be used in making its parts. However today, majority of cars are built with aluminum auto parts. First, aluminum is lightweight, reducing the total weight of the automobile, allowing it to get better fuel economy. It is also very strong and non-corrosive. The top car manufacturers love die cast aluminum auto parts because thousands of parts can be produced annually at a very low cost. Others even have contracts with aluminum die casting companies to produce aluminum auto parts for them. There are also companies which manufacture auto parts intended to be sold in stores. Manufacturing companies prefer die cast aluminum auto parts than those produced by forging, extrusion, or other manufacturing processes primarily because die cast parts are less expensive and of better quality.

Aluminum auto parts include aluminum die cast handles, aluminum valve aluminum covers, aluminum brackets, and aluminum wheels. The handles are used for car doors and other aluminum hardware handles used for opening the trunk, console and hood of the car. The valve covers are usually die cast because die cast valve covers already has a chrome look even without chrome plating. Valve covers also need to disperse heat and aluminum is an effective material for thermal transfer. The brackets hold many of the car’s engine components into place. These also hold the air conditioner and alternator in place. The wheels are made from aluminum, not magnesium, which is a common misconception. Aluminum can also be polished to a high sheen, making it ideal for wheels.

    Prototype Parts

Custom Metal Parts - Prototype Parts Options

    Stereo Lithography ( SLA )

First of all, SLA is a process that converts a three dimensional (3D) file into a plastic part in a matter of a few hours or days. Kinetic Die Casting has provided many SLA parts to prove a design for our customers. Sometimes a customer needs a sample of what will be produced in the die casting mold to prove "form, fit or function". Many times a simple SLA in hand answers many questions. SLA parts are fragile and can be broken if dropped.

    Prototype Casting

Secondly, Prototype castings are produced using a special SLA as a template for a form and then a few castings can be produced. The process is very fast and accurate for prototype custom metal parts. Many times parts can be produced in less than a few weeks. These parts are aluminum and are more sturdy than the plastic SLA parts.

CNC Custom Metal Parts CNC machining of custom metal parts is less expensive when producing more than a few parts for prototype. The 3D model can be translated into a machining program and as many as a few hundred parts can be produced in a week. These parts are machined in metal, usually aluminum but can be steel. Steel is heavier and steel may not be stronger than aluminum.

    Extruded Aluminum Heatsinks

Extruded aluminum heatsinks are made by heating aluminum to the point of a semi-solid state. Then this aluminum is pushed (extruded) through an extrusion die. These aluminum forms have the profile of the die it was pushed through, much like the play dough toy extruder. The simple shapes are stars or circles. These forms are cut to the length needed.

First, Aluminum Heatsinks that are extruded typically have a flat bottom and ribs on the top. They can be extruded in lengths of several feet an cut to shorter lengths. Because these extruded aluminum heatsinks were formed by pushing through a die, there is a limitation on details that can be formed on the top and bottom surfaces. If a depression is needed to mount components then it will need to be machined into the part as a pocket as an after operation, dramatically increasing the part cost. More typically, if holes are needed for mounting, they too will need to be machined into the parts as a secondary operation. Any other holes needed so wires or components can pass through have the same limitation.

Second, the Aluminum Die Casting Process injects metal into a mold or die that forms the top, bottom and sides. Mounting holes, through holes and cavity indentations formed into the part are in the die halfs on the top and bottom. Aluminum Die Casting Heatsinks will have all the features necessary for installing the components and the holes for mounting during the original manufacturing operation. Die casting heatsinks will not require secondary operations for holes and features.

    The History of Die Casting

The History of Die Casting. To understand the die casting process is to understand the history of metallurgy and to peruse the history of man. Man has been shaping metal since antiquity. We fashioned our tools, weapons, and implements from the metals we found in the earth. The first metal we used was gold, then copper. Gold exists in its natural state and did not require much processing, but copper had to be smelted. This was the start of a crude metalworking industry.

First, the manufacturing of die cast parts in modern times is a far cry from those first attempts of civilization. Now it is not an outdoor bonfire that we use, but a high tech die casting machine inside a die casting company to melt and mold our metals. Aside from copper, we have discovered more useful metals like aluminum, zinc, tin, brass, magnesium, and lead.

Second, the parts we manufacture out of metal are not anymore crude knives and arrowheads, but precision parts for modern industries like telecommunications and automobiles, mobile phones, fiber optics, computers and laptops, children’s toys and collectibles such as die cast model cars and airplanes.
